Looking at purely his stats and accolades, it’s not shocking that the Los Angeles Rams were so interested in a Myles Garrett trade. But once they dug deeper into his tape, they realized swinging a deal was a must.

Garrett is coming off of a historic season as his 23 sacks marked a new NFL single-season high. The Rams quickly realized those sacks didn’t come from pure power alone, further driving their trade interest, via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

“What they learned a lot more about while doing the full vetting was just how smart a football player Garrett is,” Breer wrote. “As one Rams evaluator put it, you could see “how football is something of a science to him.” It became apparent to the team, in the evaluation, in breaking down the kitchen-sink list of looks offenses would give him, and how it wasn’t just “I’ll out-athlete everyone” for Garrett. They saw he knew the opponent well and was prepared for anything.”

Garrett has put up double digit sack numbers in every season of his nine-year NFL career outside of his rookie campaign. He has no fewer than 14 dating back to the 2021 season. Furthermore, Garrett is on a streak of six straight Pro Bowls and three-straight All-Pro nominations. He is also the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

The Rams have gone all-in on winning a Super Bowl, which makes bringing all of those attributes to Los Angeles a no brainer. However, the franchise knows Garrett’s skill goes beyond the numbers. With his focus aligned on Super Bowl glory, the franchise knew his addition would be a match made in heaven.
