Former first-round OG Kenyon Greene is headed to the Eagles in exchange for S CJ Gardner-Johnson.

The Texans continue to be one of the most active teams in free agency as they’re reportedly sending former first-round pick OG Kenyon Greene to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Houston is also sending a 2026 fifth-round pick while the Eagles are throwing in a 2026 sixth-rounder.

Gardner-Johnson is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro while helping lead the Eagles to their second Super Bowl Championship in the past decade. The former Saints fourth-round pick in 2019 tied his career high with six interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) in 2024 to go with 59 total tackles, two tackles for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

With this move, the Texans move on from Greene who unfortunately has been one of the worst guards in the NFL during his three years as a pro. He ended the 2024 season with a Pro Football Focus grade of 38.6. For context, an “average” grade from PFF is 60.0, which shows just how below average he’s been when on the field.

The Eagles will attempt to refurnish Greene as a player behind the coaching of Jeff Stoutland. While that may take a season, or several, the Texans will immediately reap the benefits of adding CJGJ to their secondary.
