The core special teams player for the Chargers is headed to Houston on a two-year deal.
The Chargers have allowed another in-house free agent to walk as linebacker and core special-teamer Nick Niemann is reportedly signing a two-year, $6.5 million deal to join the Houston Texans, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Niemann has been one of the Chargersβ best coverage players under special teams coordinator Ryan Ficken for the past three seasons. Per reports, the Chargers were interested in bring Niemann back to LA but it looks like the Texans made an offer he could not refuse, especially for a core special-teamer in this league.
The former sixth-round pick spent four seasons with the Chargers, playing in 64 total games with three starts. He leaves the Bolts having totaled 86 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
Now that Niemann is set to play elsewhere in 2025, the Chargers likely plan to re-sign linebacker Troy Dye, their other standout player on kick coverages in 2024 who also played his fair share of snaps on defense when players like Denzel Perryman and Junior Colson spent stints on injured reserve.
