Pro Football Rumors
The Texans have signed fourth-round offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu to a four-year, $5.6MM contract, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reports .The team now has all eight members of its 2026 draft class under contract.
A native of the Lone Star State, Nwaiwu began his college career as a walk-on at North Texas in 2021. Nwaiwu became the starting right guard for the Mean Green a year later and held the position through 2023. The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder continued to start at right guard after transferring to Oklahoma in 2024, but he showed off more versatility last season. While seeing time at both guard spots and center, he performed well enough to earn first-team All-America honors and a second-team All-SEC nod.
Nwaiwu played 845 snaps during his final season in college and did not allow a sack or a quarterback hit. He also took just one penalty. Nwaiwu’s standout play as a senior turned him into a draftable prospect, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, who projects the 23-year-old to turn into a solid backup guard-center in the NFL. It appears he will at least begin his career in reserve, as Houston has proven starters Wyatt Teller and Ed Ingram at the guard positions. Jake Andrews and first-round rookie Keylan Rutledge will compete for the starting center job this summer.
With Nwaiwu under wraps, there are now just six unsigned draft picks left in the league as training camp approaches. Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza (No. 1 overall, Raiders), Ty Simpson (No. 13, Rams), Carson Beck (No. 65, Cardinals) and Drew Allar (No. 76, Steelers) are without deals, as are edge defender Gabe Jacas (No. 55, Patriots) and cornerback Jermod McCoy (No. 101, Raiders).
