Mario Edwards will return to the Texans defense after recording 12 starts during the 2024 seasons.

The Texans are once again re-signing one of their own as they agreed to terms with defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. on a new two-year, $9.50 million deal. Edwards returns after starting 12 games in 2024, his most since the 2017 campaign when he was a member of the Raiders.

At 30 years old, Edwards was a key contributor for the Texans defense in his first season with the team, recording 31 tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries.

Edwards now rejoins a defensive line group that currently employs Tim Settle Jr., Folorunso Fatukasi, Sheldon Rankins, and Tommy Togiai.

Prior to joining the Texans in 2024, Edwards spent time with the Seahawks (2023), Titans (2022), Bears (2020-2021), Saints (2019), and Giants (2018). Edwards originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick of the Raiders during the 2015 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at Florida State.
