The Washington Commanders are back at it in training camp, trying to establish a new tone for what’s sure to be a tough season ahead. Though, the Commanders are starting off training camp with a great amount of drama due to Terry McLaurin’s contract holdout.
Last year’s campaign, which resulted in Washington’s first trip to the NFC Conference Championship since 1991, was a great success, now it’s time to prove it wasn’t a fluke. To do so, they’ll need everyone on the same page. Right now, the Commanders aren’t on the same page with their leading receiver of the past six seasons.
Heading into the final year of his contract, McLaurin understandably wants a new deal that keeps him in D.C. for the long run. But how much money does the two-time Pro Bowler want?
According to ESPN’s NFL expert Adam Schefter, McLaurin is seeking a contract that pays more than what D.K. Metcalf signed for with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason.
For the record, Metcalf signed a four-year, $132 million contract with the Steelers. Metcalf, 27 (two years younger than the 29-year-old McLaurin), is also a two-time Pro Bowler.
McLaurin is set to have a $25.5 million cap hit this season, yet if he gets his way, that number will be increasing, either this year or the next.
