NFL fans were stunned to learn that Terrell Owens’ son, Terique, is trying out for the San Francisco 49ers.

One of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Terrell Owens spent his first eight seasons with the 49ers (1996 to 2003), forming an explosive pass-catching tandem with fellow Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

After three seasons at Missouri State, Terique Owens signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. Unfortunately, he suffered a hand injury during training camp and was waived by the 49ers before the regular season began.

During Saturday night’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Terique Owens made his first (unofficial) NFL catch, a 17-yard reception from Mac Jones:

With All-Pro wideout Brandon Aiyuk expected to be out until Week 6 and veteran receiver Demarcus Robinson facing a suspension for a DUI offense, the 49ers have several temporary WR openings. Only time will tell if Terique follows the footsteps of Terrell Owens by beginning his NFL career right here in the Bay Area.

Two weeks ago, the 49ers signed former 1,000-yard receiver Robbie Chosen (formerly “Robbie Anderson”) to bolster their WR room. If Owens and the 49ers’ other backups don’t cut it in the preseason, GM John Lynch may add more receivers via trade or free agency.

Terrell Owens Was A Three-Time Pro Bowler With 49ers

Owens was named to the Pro Bowl in three of his eight seasons as a 49er, earning the honors three years in a row from 2000 to 2002. He exceeded the 1,000-yard mark five times, including a career-high 1,451 yards in 2000.
