Early in the third quarter with the Buffalo Bills trailing the Houston Texans 20-16, linebackers Terrel Bernard and Matt Milano combined to drop Nick Chubb a yard behind the line of scrimmage. However, the result for Buffalo was the loss of their defensive captain.

Bernard immediately began rolling on the ground in obvious pain as he held his right arm close to his body. After a few minutes on the field, trainers had the fourth-year linebacker, who has already been hampered by an ankle injury for weeks this season, on his feet. The Buffalo training staff escorted Bernard straight to the locker room while helping him hold his right arm against his body.

Bernard returned to the sideline in a sling a few minutes later. He was declared out with an elbow injury.

With Bernard out, it will be some combination of Shaq Thompson, who is active for the first time since Week 8, and Joe Andreesen who will have to step in to help Milano and Dorian Williams at linebacker. Thompson wore the green playcaller dot on the ensuing drive.
