Tennessee Titans Release All-Pro After Disappointing Performance

Few teams have been more disappointing than the Tennessee Titans this season. After all, the Titans are the only team who have fired their head coach so far.

After a 1-6 start, now one of their All-Pro players has requested his release, and the Titans have granted his request.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, All-Pro/Pro Bowl receiver Tyler Lockett has been released by the Titans. He’s expected to become available for any team to sign after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

The Titans signed the 33-year-old Oklahoma native to a one-year, $4 million contract this offseason, but the partnership hasn’t worked out to anyone’s liking. The 11th-year pro has started just one of his seven appearances and has been targeted just 21 times.

He’s hauled in just 10 of those 21 targets for 70 yards and no touchdowns. With several teams hunting for more receiver help, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, Lockett shouldn’t have any trouble latching on elsewhere.

Lockett had a four-year stretch from 2019 to 2022 where he recorded 1,000 yards each season. But his production has trailed off drastically in the past few seasons, dipping to 894 yards in 2023, down to 600 last season. Now he’s on track to finish with just 170 yards, but that’s why he wants an opportunity elsewhere.
