Well, DUH!

The Tennessee Titans' thin EDGE group got even thinner right before training camp when Lorenzo Carter informed the team of his plan to retire. They needed to do more earlier this offseason to address the issue, but did not. Can that change now? Jeremy Fowler of ESPN says the Titans are open to adding a pass rusher in free agency. No kidding?

Fowler listed Preston Smith as a name to watch. Smith, a 10-year veteran, will turn 33 in November. He was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Pittsburgh Steelers last November. He totaled 4.5 sacks between the two stops.

Adding Smith would give them some much needed depth in the EDGE room, but probably wouldn’t end up having much of an impact on the field. The pass rush success or failure is really going to come down to two things:

  1. How much pressure can Jeffery Simmons and T’Vondre Sweat create in the middle?
  2. Can second round pick Femi Oladejo make an impact this year?
