Heading into the offseason, the Tennessee Titans need to re-evaluate pretty much everything. Yet, the one factor that likely will be an important part of their head coaching interview process will be finding someone who can maximize the potential of No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.

To do so, the Titans could find themselves prioritizing bright offensive minds. If so, there’s one candidate who already sticks out like a sore thumb.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is a “serious candidate” to fill the Titans’ head coaching vacancy.

Unlike Callahan, Nagy does have previous head coaching experience, yet, like most coaches who later become coordinators, it ended badly. Still, Nagy led the Bears to a respectable 34-31 record across four years, which included two postseason appearances.

Yet, Nagy is far from the only person on Tennessee’s coaching interview wish list. According to Russini, the Titans also aim to reach out to multiple coaches with a defensive background, including Indianapolis Colts’ Lou Anarumo, the Green Bay Packers’ Jeff Hafley, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Anthony Campanile, the Rams’ Chris Shula, the Houston Texans’ Matt Burke, and the Chargers’ Jesse Minter.

Of course, hiring a hotshot with a background in offense is exactly what the Titans did two offseasons ago when they made Brian Callahan their next head coach. Callahan made his hay by coaching Joe Burrow for four seasons as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, but he didn’t have any previous head coaching experience. The Titans understandably want to avoid a similar outcome.
