Tennessee Titans Interview Their Former Coordinator for Head Coaching Job

The Tennessee Titans are searching for their next head coach after quickly determining that Brian Callahan wasn’t the right hire. Many would argue that the Titans already had a good head coach before picking Callahan. Mike Vrabel’s success with the New England Patriots suggests Tennessee made a grand mistake in firing him following the 2023 season.

Now the Titans face an increased amount of pressure to find the right man for the job. One who can help maximize the potential of former No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.

The Titans have been busy identifying and interviewing candidates since the offseason began. On Wednesday, they completed an interview with one of their former coordinators, who is well-known to Tennessee football fans.

Specifically, the Titans interviewed current Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who coordinated Tennessee’s offense from 2019 to 2020.

Smith managed to help the Titans lead a top-five offense in scoring and yards in his final season in Tennessee. That was enough to get him an opportunity to be the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach from 2021 to 2023. Though, after Smith led the Falcons to just a 21-30 record across three seasons, he was let go.

Smith then caught on as the Steelers’ offensive coordinator, where he got to work with the likes of Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Aaron Rodgers in the past two seasons. Smith, coming off back-to-back playoff appearances, could very well land another head coaching opportunity this offseason, and the Titans may be leading the charge.
