Will Levis will very soon be on the outside looking in when it comes to the starting quarterback position for the Tennessee Titans, probably. Cam Ward is expected to be drafted No. 1 overall on Thursday night.
General manager Mike Borgonzi effectively put the nail in Levis’ coffin during a press conference on Tuesday.
Levis was the No. 33 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Tennessee traded up to select him with the first pick of the second round after a surprising slide in Round 1, given all of the hype in days leading up to the event. His time with the organization hast not been great. In fact, there have been more viral memes about his career over the last two years than wins.
The Titans are 5-16 when Will Levis is the starter. He has thrown 16 interceptions to 21 touchdowns. He most recently got benched during the worst singular performance of his career with his ex-girlfriend in attendance. Brutal.
Most people expected that game to be the end of Levis’ time in Nashville. It very well could be. But as of now, he remains on the roster and has yet to be traded or released.
Tennessee could decide to shock everybody and draft a generational talent like Travis Hunter with the No. 1 overall pick on Thursday. That would allow Levis to hold onto his starting job for one more year.
Probably not. The pick is going to be Cam Ward, which will leave Levis as the backup.
When asked about the former second round pick’s future with the organization, General Manager Mike Borgonzi said that he is “a quarterback in our room who is still developing.” That was it. And his answer to the question was not enthusiastic by any stretch of the imagination.
