“It’s out of my control.”
The Cincinnati Bengals have plenty of work to take care of this season if the team hopes to get back to the Super Bowl next season.
The team has numerous guys due for contract extensions, including Ja’Marr Chase, Trey Hendrickson, and Tee Higgins.
Higgins is coming off the franchise tag in 2024 but has made it clear he wants to stay in Cincinnati long-term, even switching agents mid-season to join the same agency as Chase.
Joe Burrow has gone out of his way to publicly apply pressure to the Bengals front office to bring back his teammates this offseason.
With that being said, Higgins has recently shared his thoughts with FOX 19’s Joe Danneman on the contract situation.
“Yeah, of course, we all want to keep the core pieces what it is (right now) even with Mike Gesicki. That’s a core piece as well,” he said. “So obviously, we want to build something here in Cincy. But you know, it’s not in my hands right now. So I got to do what I need to do and if that’s go to another team. That’s what happens.”
Higgins didn’t stop there and continued sharing even more important information on his mindset with the contract situation.
“I’m just trying to stay away from it right now. Clear my head. Get away from the game, especially after tonight. Clear my head. Get away from the game for a few weeks. And then, obviously, in March that’s when things start ramping up for me, with free agency coming up, and I would love to be here in Cincinnati.
“I love it here. I love the city. I love the fans. I love coaching staff, everything that we’re building, but it’s out of my control.”
The next few months for the Bengals will be the most important in franchise history.
