Ted’s Talk: Seahawks hold Max Brosmer under 485 passing yards in shutout of Vikings

For context.

Yeah, not quite Mooch! The Seattle Seahawks defense put a choke hold on Max Brosmer and the Minnesota Vikings the entire game en route to a 26-0 shutout, the first time the Vikings have been shut out since 2007. Brosmer finished 19/30 for 126 yards and 4 INTs, two of them reeled in by Ernest Jones IV. It was a defensive masterclass befitting of the throwback jerseys!

The offense, however, struggled to get in a rhythm for most of the game before finally finding the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Brian Flores’ defense had their way with the Seahawks offensive line for much of the day accounting for 4 sacks and 7 TFLs. Seattle’s defense was so good that it didn’t really matter what the offense did today.

Seahawks Droppings

  • Sam Darnold was under pressure the entire game, taking four sacks and having multiple passes knocked down at the line of scrimmage. Even if he wanted to find guys downfield, he had basically zero time to do so. His final line was 14/26 for 128 yards and a fumble lost. I guess the bright side is that he didn’t throw any interceptions.
  • I know I already talked about the Seahawks defense, but they were so absolutely dominant that I need to gush about them again. They held the Vikings to 162 total yards, 2-10 on third down, and 0-2 on fourth down. Add in the four sacks and four INTs – one of which was returned for the game’s first TD by Ernest Jones IV – and you have one of the most complete performances I can remember in the last decade. I get it, Brosmer was a rookie who was way out of his league, but remember that Okada was banged up, Julian Love still isn’t back yet, and Jarran Reed is out. This defense could get even better, which is scary!
  • For all the roses I just gave the defense, Nick Emmanwori had an easy INT go right past his earhole. Granted, he was plastering Justin Jefferson on the play, which is impressive in itself. Emmanwori had a boneheaded unnecessary roughness call against Jefferson later in the game for throwing him down after the play was stopped. He’s still figuring things out, but is a damn good football player.
  • Ernest Jones IV is very good at football. He had 12 tackles, 2 INT, and a defensive TD. That trade is looking like it could be one of the best John Schneider has ever made.
  • Speaking of great Schneider moves, DeMarcus Lawrence has been a lynchpin for the defense this season. He was in the process of sacking Brosmer when he tried that underhand pass that Jones picked off and returned for a TD. Lawrence also forced a fumble on Aaron Jones that saved potential points. We figured Tank would be a great addition in the locker room, but I’m not sure anyone anticipated his on-field performance would be...
