Seven games into their season, the New York Jets still haven’t been able to get their first win in the Aaron Glenn era. After another poor performance that saw Justin Fields complete just 6-of-12 passes for 46 yards, while taking three sacks for a loss of 21, the Jets benched him for Tyrod Taylor.
The Jets may not know who their starting quarterback will be next week. They also won’t be able to salvage what clearly is a lost season. But that doesn’t mean they can’t take some steps to bounce back in 2026, hopefully with a much-improved roster.
First-year general manager Darren Mougey may already be thinking about next season as the NFL trade deadline approaches following Week 9.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets have become a “trade target” for several teams eyeing upgrades ahead of the deadline. But it’s not for Breece Hall, whom many think could get traded. Still, teams could come calling for Pro Bowl pass-rusher Jermaine Johnson II.
Johnson, 26, is under contract through 2026, so there’s no immediate pressure to do a deal. However, with teams always placing a premium on productive pass-rushers, Johnson could be valued highly around the league.
His best season came in 2023, when he recorded 7.5 sacks. Johnson, the 26th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has recorded one sack so far this season.
