Taylor Swift made a massive announcement this Friday that should please all her fans.
The pop star had been embroiled in a battle over the ownership of the rights to her music for several years – since 2019, to be precise – and she’s finally won as she revealed via her official website that all her music now belongs to her.
“All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs … to me,” she wrote. “To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it.”
“To my fans, you know how important this has been to me — so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released four of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version,” she added.
Swift spent an undisclosed amount to purchase her masters back from Los Angeles-based investment firm Shamrock Capital, after a public feud with her former manager, Scooter Braun.
Braun’s company bought over Swift’s old label and, by virtue of such, acquired a significant stake in her early recordings. He eventually sold the master rights to the aforementioned private equity firm.
“I just feel that artists should own their work,” Swift said in 2019.
Well, the fight to reclaim her music is finally over, which should mark a major win for the pop sensation. She just wrapped up her Eras Tour, which saw her perform in multiple countries and book 149 shows.
Taylor Swift got some disappointing news earlier this week, having failed to win any awards at the AMA’s this time around, but this latest development should more than make up for it.
