Not too long ago, there were rumors flying around (as they do pretty much every year when the NFL season starts) that Taylor Swift was in talks to do the Super Bowl LX halftime show. After all, what musical performer is now more synonymous with the NFL than T-Swizzle?
Those rumors were then followed by another report that Taylor Swift turned down doing the Super Bowl halftime show. The reason that was given was that she didn’t want to do it for free. The NFL doesn’t pay Super Bowl halftime performers, just their production costs.
That, at least according to Taylor Swift herself, wasn’t actually the reason she turned it down, nor was it because, as had also been rumored, “because of performance footage.” It was actually because she is “just too locked in” during the NFL season.
“Here’s the thing,” Swift explained to Jimmy Fallon Monday night. “Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are really close. They sometimes will call and say how does she feel about… and that’s not an official offer or a conference room conversation. Our teams are really close, how does she feel about it? We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.
“That is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous,” she continued. “The whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field. Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week putting his life on the line doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be? I think we should do two verses of ‘Shake It Up’ into ‘Blank Space’ into ‘Cruel Summer’ would be great. This has nothing to do with Travis, he would love for me to do it. I am just too locked in.”
Sorry, Swifties. On the plus side, however, it sounds like she might not be opposed to doing the Super Bowl halftime show once Travis Kelce retires (even though her current decision has “nothing to do with” him). He can’t possibly have more than one or two more years left in the tank before he hangs up his cleats.

Speaking of performing in NFL stadiums, Taylor Swift thinks her job and Travis Kelce’s job are remarkably similar in several ways.
“We both, as a living, as a job, as a passion, perform for three and a half hours in NFL stadiums. When I’m in those stadiums, it’s a dressing room. But when he’s in those exact same stadiums, it’s a locker room,” she told BBC Radio 2.
“For him, it’s practice. For me, it’s rehearsal. For him, it’s a game. For me, it’s a show. We...
