I’ve never been one to think that Tanner Hudson won’t be on the Bengals’ 53-man roster this season. He’s had a solid last two seasons, and he could play a significant role again in Dan Pitcher’s offense.
However, he already plays behind Mike Gesicki and Drew Sample, while Noah Fant was just added to the mix, so it stands to reason that Hudson’s roster spot was in jeopardy.
But Thursday night in Philadelphia, Hudson showed why he needs to be on the 53-man roster with two touchdowns. His first touchdown came on a catch-and-run from Joe Burrow, with the Bengals’ tight end barely getting the ball across the goal line before going down.
Then in the fourth quarter, he hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Desmond Ridder to pull the Bengals within 34-27.
In total, Hudson had six receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns Thursday night. His longest reception went for 21 yards, and his 62 yards were second on the Bengals for Thursday night behind only Ja’Marr Chase.
Over his first two seasons with the Bengals, Hudson has 58 receptions for 506 yards and two touchdowns.
He’s done enough to make the Bengals’ 53-man roster this season. Thursday night was just further proof why he should make it this season.
