The Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave up 21 points to the New York Jets in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s game as well as giving up a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown with 2 minutes left. But that wasn’t enough to sink the proverbial pirate ship as Baker Mayfield and the Bucs came roaring back to kick a field goal as time expired to win 29-27.

Tampa Bay pulled off the comeback win after losing Mike Evans to injury while already down three starters on the offensive line (Tristan Wirfs, Luke Goedeke, and Cody Mauch) which makes the next piece of information more impressive, in my humble opinion.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Make NFL History With Simultaneous Rushing Streaks

During Sunday’s win, the Buccaneers rushed the ball 34 times for 122 yards. Bucky Irving led the team with 66 yards on 25 carries. That was just 2.5yds shy of his o/u locally but that’s neither here nor there.

On the other side of the field, the New York Jets rushed the ball 23 times for 99 yards, failing to eclipse magic ‘100’ number. And that’s where this is all going.

With the Buccaneers rushing for 122 yards, that marked 11 straight games where Tampa Bay has rushed for 100 or more yards in a game.

Simultaneously, the Buccaneers stopped the Jets from rushing for 100 yards. That pushed Tampa Bay’s streak to 11 consecutive games of limiting their opponent to under 100 yards rushing.

Following Sunday’s win, Tampa Bay’s Communications team announced this was the first time in NFL history that a team has had these two streaks going simultaneously, according to Elias Sports.

In the 2024-25 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense ranked 4th in the NFL with 2,536 rushing yards. They had 16 TDs on the ground.

Tampa’s defense also ranked 4th in the NFL last season in rushing yards allowed. They gave up just 1,663 rushing yards to the opposition. Not bad!

The Buccaneers have a brutal schedule in the weeks ahead starting with the Eagles next weekend. They’ll also face Seattle, the 49ers, Lions, Bills, and Rams. It will be interesting to see how the Bucs hold up. Philly had 366 rushing yards through 3 weeks.
