Nearly three quarters of Giants fans want to see the Commanders win
The 2025 NFC Championship game is something of a nightmare scenario for fans of the New York Giants.
It’s bad enough that they won just three games and the 2024 season could best be summed up by the phrase “...And then it got worse.” It would be bad enough that the Giants are sitting at home after a dismal season, but now the last two teams standing from the NFC are two division rivals of the Giants — the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.
While there were questions regarding how well the Eagles would be able to reload following their collapse in 2023, they still have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. Washington, meanwhile, has been the surprise of the 2023 season behind rookie phenom Jayden Daniels.
One of these teams has to win the game, so this week we wanted to know which one Giants fans are rooting for.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that almost three quarters of Giants fans rooting for the Commanders.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that they’re happy about it. If we’re being honest, just about the only way this could be a more distasteful turn of events is if it was between the Eagles and the Cowboys.
And that’s probably the reason behind the poll results: The Commanders are the lesser of two evils in the eyes of most Giants fans. There are Giants fans who genuinely enjoy watching Jayden Daniels play — though they’d much rather see him plying his trade in Blue. But there just isn’t as much animosity among Giants fans for Washington as there is for Dallas and Philly. After all, Washington has long been the only team that the Giants could reliably beat. Many of the negative feelings toward Washington likely went out the door with Dan Snyder, and many Giants fans have expressed sympathy for Washington fans saddled with an incompetent franchise.
This side of the rivalry seems (almost) more friendly than anything else.
On the flip side, Giants fans have a long history of being frustrated by the Eagles’ refusal to go through extended lulls. They always seem to rebound after bad seasons and defy the NFL’s gravitational pull toward parity. Going back in time, there are too many painful memories for Giants’ fans involving the Eagles. Two miracles in the meadowlands, Victor Cruz suffering what amounted to a career-ending injury, and the list goes on (and on).
There’s also the inter-city rivalry between New York and Philadelphia. It isn’t as historic as the New York - Boston rivalry, but it’s not nothing either. And of course there are also still hard feelings from Saquon Barkley leaving the Giants for the Eagles, and then having a historic season in his first year there.
So yeah, it makes sense almost 75 percent of Giants fans would rather see the Commanders make the Super Bowl, even if they would have...
