The Los Angeles Rams are widely expected to trade veteran future Hall of Fame quarterback Matthew Stafford this offseason with numerous teams likely interested in his services. With the offseason ramping up, a favorite to land Stafford’s services has emerged.
While Matthew Stafford is now 37 years old. he remains an effective-to-elite starting quarterback in the NFL, as he completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions last season. Stafford and the Rams were also the only team to put up a real fight against the Philadelphia Eagles in their run to the Super Bowl title.
Despite this, the Rams and Stafford look set to part ways, with sports betting markets currently listing the Minnesota Vikings as the favorites to land Stafford, with the odds hovering around the following numbers:
Minnesota Vikings at +200, New York Giants at +300, Las Vegas Raiders at +400, Indianapolis Colts at +500, and the New York Jets +700.
The Vikings have an obvious connection to Stafford, as head coach Kevin O’Connell was the offensive coordinator for the team in 2020 and 2021, which is the year they won the Super Bowl. While the Minnesota Vikings finished the 2024 regular season with a 14-3 record, they crashed out of the playoffs in just one game, getting dismantled by Stafford and the Rams in the NFC Wild Card round.
Similar to the Rams prior to Stafford, with** Jared Goff** and now Sam Darnold being in similar positions, the Vikings seem like they’re a truly elite signal caller away from being legit Super Bowl contenders. Stafford was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and has been a top 10ish quarterback in the league every season since.
With their questions at the quarterback position, the Vikings don’t even crack the top ten betting favorites to win the 2026 Super Bowl (currently at +3200). Should they land Matthew Stafford, however, its possible their odds would catapult into the top five favorites alongside the likes of the Detroit Lions (+900).
