A surprise team is reportedly looking to trade up to select Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ward and Colorado Buffaloes standout Cam Ward are the consensus top two quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward was a Heisman Trophy finalist after a phenomenal 2024 campaign, though it was Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter who won the honors.
Both Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are expected to be top-10 picks. The first three selections (Tennessee Titans at No. 1, Cleveland Browns at No. 2 and New York Giants at No. 3) belong to teams that need quarterbacks.
According to a report from NFL insider Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Las Vegas Raiders (owners of the No. 6 pick) are looking to trade up to get Ward:
“The overall belief from people in the league is that the Las Vegas Raiders will be one of the teams actively attempting to trade up with the hopes of selecting quarterback Cam Ward. The team needs a quarterback and wanted to move up up for Jayden Daniels a year ago, though it was a completely different regime running the show in Las Vegas.”
The Raiders will reportedly attempt to trade up for Miami QB Cam Ward, per @TonyPauline.

Ward transferred to Miami for the 2024 season after spending two seasons with the Washington State Cougars. He completed 67.2 percent of pass attempts for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and just seven interceptions to go along with 204 rushing yards and four rushing scores.
Before Washington, Ward also spent two seasons at Incarnate Word. In each five of his NCAA seasons, Ward threw for at least 23 touchdowns, and he threw for over 3,200 yards each year from 2021 to 2024.
The Raiders got lackluster quarterback play out of Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O’Connell in 2024, though the latter showed some promise as the season progressed.
With Tom Brady coming aboard as a minority owner, and with future Hall of Famer Pete Carroll taking over as head coach, the Raiders will surely be in the market for a big-named quarterback this offseason.
Adding a dual-threat QB like Ward to the mix would immediately bring new hope to frustrated Raiders fans. The team has been stuck with mediocre QB production since Derek Carr’s departure in 2023, but a player of Ward’s caliber could finally change that.
