The Cleveland Browns made a little news this week when they announced that rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel would be taking over the starting role from Joe Flacco, keeping Shedeur Sanders as the team’s third-string QB. Gabriel, drafted in the third round out of the University of Oregon, will make his first NFL start on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings in London.
Gabriel has played in two games so far this year, going 3-for-4 for 19 yards and a touchdown, was believed by some to have thrown some shade at fellow Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders after being named the starter. When asked by the media about the move to make Gabriel the starting QB, thus keeping him as the team’s third-string quarterback, Sanders acted like a mime, mouthing his response.

On Thursday, Super Bowl-winning head coach Bruce Arians appeared on Up & Adams and wondered why the Cleveland Browns were even making Shedeur Sanders, the team’s fifth round draft pick and third-string quarterback, available to the media at all.
“Why is the third quarterback getting interviews?” Arians asked Kay Adams. “You’ve got nothing to do with the game. Okay, it’s all for media clicks. He’s a heck of a personality, but the personality can’t come out til you do something on the field. It’s a big week for Dillon Gabriel, and it’s a big week for the Browns, in making that transition. For him to even be available to the press, I don’t know why he’s doing it. … To me, I mean, there’s no sense to having him available. Whoever’s running their media relations should turn that down.”

After Shadeur pretended to be a mime, Deion Sanders, Jr. wrote on X, “People who ‘blend in’ trying to teach people who ‘stand out’ how to ‘blend in.’ Basically, advice on how to be average.”
Shedeur’s famous father, Colorado coach Deion Sanders, Sr., responded to his son’s behavior by posting a bunch of laughing crying emojis and writing, “Good 1 son. You did that.”
Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders’ sister Shelomi posted three pictures of him in uniform on her Instagram story with the caption, “Boss mannnnnn.”
And Shedeur Sanders’ mom Pilar, responding to former NFL head coach Rex Ryan calling the quarterback “an embarrassment,” wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, “To young Athletes and Football fans… This is what impotent, cancerous, envious energy looks like. This type of Evile [sic] goes waaay back – you can cut it with a knife – embedded in blood and bones seeping through all of the rotting worm holes it has. What and who does he really represent? Its [sic] family and peers should be embarrassed to...
