If you placed a wager on how long Jon Batiste would take to sing the national anthem before Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, whether you won the bet or not depends on which sportsbook you used to make it. This is now the second year in a row that sportsbooks have differed on the official time of “The Star Spangled Banner” at the big game.
Apparently, the official time that sportsbooks use to determine the length of the national anthem at the Super Bowl varies. Some say the anthem is over when the singer stops singing. Others claim it is when the music stops playing. Then there is the fact that, as was the case on Sunday, it was almost impossible to hear when the music actually ended due to the jets flying over the stadium at the end of the song.

For example, according to Front Office Sports, FanDuel had the Super Bowl national anthem clocked in at 120.5 seconds, meaning the over bets were winners. Meanwhile, DraftKings had the national anthem timed at 119.5 seconds, so the under won. Bovada, on the other hand, said the anthem took 121 seconds, so people who bet the over with them were winners.
The discrepancy on the times used by various sportsbooks for the anthem caused a little mayhem amongst the degenerate gambler crowd on social media.
“No way that went under,” one bettor claimed.
“Really? I had it over,” wrote another fan.
“This is bull s—!!!!!” someone who obviously lost the bet complained.
“Wait what?” read another comment.
“Funny how they cut to the jets flyover and you couldn’t hear when he belted out last verse… Sham,” someone else wrote.
Last year, Reba McEntire also caused an issue with national anthem prop bets when she added an extra “the brave” at the end of the song, pushing it past 90.5 seconds. When the song was complete, DraftKings said McEntire’s second “the brave” didn’t count, while FanDuel said it did, producing two different over/under results. BetMGM, on the other hand, just said screw it and honored both bets.
