Super Bowl dreams: What the Browns need to get where the Eagles and Chiefs are

The NFL mountain top has not included the Browns, as fans watch the Super Bowl, what is missing in Cleveland?

Another season, another year that the Cleveland Browns are at home watching the Super Bowl. Just like everyone else. The term “there’s always next year” is a term recited through northeast Ohio whenever the Browns season ends.

The two teams in the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are there because they have a great/good coach, franchise quarterbacks, great rosters and a front office that has a vision. The question that everyone would want to know is, will Cleveland ever reach that mountaintop?

The reason why the Chiefs (who are looking to 3-peat) and the Eagles (who are looking to bring another Lombardi to the city of Brotherly Love) are because of the things I mentioned above. Do the Browns have that?

Not necessarily. Cleveland has a good coach in head coach Kevin Stefanski, that’s one thing. However, they don’t have a franchise quarterback, the roster isn’t nearly as good and they have a front office that has a murky vision of the team they want to be.

With star defensive end Myles Garrett requesting a trade, Cleveland’s front office is met with a crossroads in terms of the vision they want. Do they want to do a complete teardown and start a rebuild with potential financial consequences? Or do they want to retool the roster in order to stay competitive?

Those are the tough questions that need to be asked. Getting to the Super Bowl is hard and for the Browns, it’s been even more difficult since The Return. Cleveland hasn’t been inept, they have been competent despite what people might think. People will scoff at the 2 playoff appearances with a lone playoff win but it’s better than routine 10+ loss seasons.

For Cleveland to get to the Super Bowl, they need to take the right steps to make it. Aggressive, but smart approach. Believing in the process and selling your fans on that process, but at this point, the fans are probably not buying into the process at all.

Kansas City and Philadelphia are in this spot to compete for a Super Bowl because they have great coaches, franchise QB’s and a front office that built strong rosters. Will Cleveland ever get to that mountaintop? Who knows, but until then we settle for playing with the Browns on Madden with them winning the Super Bowl for now.
