T.J. Watt has had better seasons than last year’s. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ all-time leading sack-getter is entering his 10th NFL campaign aiming to return to form. Former Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos guard Mark Schlereth still has high praise for Watt, naming him the ninth-best non-quarterback in the NFL.
“Probably should have him higher, but that’s just kinda where he fell when I was kinda doodling this out last night,” Schlereth said on “The Stinkin Truth Podcast.” “T.J. Watt is a dude that every time you break the huddle, you gotta figure out where that guy is. Plays exceptionally hard, unbelievable — not only from an upfield, getting you with speed (approach), but also his counter moves getting back inside. But I think he’s one of those guys that’s just a complete player.
“I think he’ll play the run, I think he’ll do everything for you as a player.”
Watt, who won Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, posted seven sacks last go-round, along with two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Others Schlereth listed were Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (No. 10), Philadelphia tailback Saquon Barkley (No. 8), Baltimore safety Kyle Hamilton (No. 7), Arizona tight end Trey McBride (No. 6), Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua (No. 5), Denver cornerback Patrick Surtain II (No. 4), Detroit offensive tackle Penei Sewell (No. 3), retired defensive tackle Aaron Donald (No. 2) and Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett (No. 1).
