Travis Hunter has a new fan following a heartwarming gesture he made toward a woman during a flight on United Airlines.
Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft, is one of the most famous kids in the country following his exploits in college football. But that hardly means everyone knows him.
The former Colorado star sat next to a woman named Sandy Hawkins Combs on a flight out of Denver this weekend and was described as “the nicest young man,” having displayed remarkable politeness and courtesy.
“He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray,” Combs said in a Facebook post. “He was always polite, saying “yes ma’am” or “no ma’am.” Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson—so polite.”
While Combs had no idea who Travis was, she eventually asked whether he was an athlete based on the compliments he received from other passengers, with some of them requesting photos. She also noticed he was wearing Jaguars gear and is now looking to get some of her own.
“People walking by were saying congratulations, great job, or even taking pictures,” she continued. “I turned and asked him, “Who am I sitting next to?” I looked at his Jaguar pants, smiled, and asked, “Are you an athlete?” He smiled and said, “I’m Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.” I already told my sons I want his jersey.”
Hunter, despite his brilliance on the field, has built a reputation for his humble personality.
“He’s so humble and down-to-earth—I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete. JACKSONVILLE JAGS, you did good! I will be buying tickets,” his new fan added.
She also thanked United Airlines for giving her what turned out to be the best seat on the flight.
