More details have emerged on the Las Vegas Raiders’ stunning decision to release star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins earlier this week.

In arguably the most surprising 2025 offseason roster cut, the Las Vegas Raiders released Christian Wilkins on Thursday — one year after signing him to a four-year pact worth $110 million in free agency.

It was initially reported that the Raiders released Wilkins and voided the final $35.2 million guaranteed on his contract following disagreements over how he was rehabbing his foot injury.

Now, two new reports have provided some clarity on the Raiders’ stunning roster move.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, league sources think “an incident involving a teammate may have” influenced the Raiders’ decision to release Christian Wilkins. A source told Anderson that Wilkins “(was) playing around” in the situation, which affected his release.

On top of that, Raiders reporter Mitchell Renz of Chat Sports said there was “a very weird incident” involving Wilkins. Interestingly, it was noted that the Raiders are being cautious about leaking the incident’s details.

Unfortunately, a Jones fracture sidelined Wilkins for the majority of the 2024 season. He was limited to five games as a Raider, tallying two sacks and 17 combined tackles. This came one year after Wilkins logged a career-high nine sacks in his final season with the Miami Dolphins in 2023.
