Windy City Gridiron
The Chicago Bears took care of business Sunday, by the way of smoking the Cleveland Browns at Soldier Field.
It was the comfortable, dominant win fans have been hoping for all season.
For it to come in a spot many had labeled a trap, and right in between the two meetings against the Green Bay Packers, was fantastic.
It would be easy to overlook a 3-win Cleveland team. It wasn’t long ago the Bears did overlook teams in this situation.
Now, the Bears get what they’ve wanted. A chance to control their own destiny and get into the playoffs.
And finally, Chicago is comfortably on the positive side of point differential.
Caleb Williams, QB – On the WCGSL, my co-host Steven and I were picking our over/unders for the game and we had to pick Williams’ completion percentage. We both took under 55.5. Williams didn’t let the cold bring his game down at all, completing 60 percent of his passes for 242 yards. His completion percentage was the highest since way back against the Ravens and his yardage was his highest since the game in Cincinnati. Oh, and his two touchdown passes were absolutely beauties.
DJ Moore, WR – Moore isn’t dead yet. Two touchdowns for the second time in four games and his highest yardage since Cincinnati. There’s no time like now for Moore and Williams to get some chemistry. Better late than never. The offense is better if DJ is involved and hopefully, this can build more consistency for Moore.
D’Marco Jackson, LB – D-Jack, as coach Johnson called him in the postgame, was second on the team in tackles, with seven. He also had an interception and a sack. Jackson has filled in nicely for the injured Tremaine Edmunds, and has performed well enough to deserve a look as a longer-term depth piece.
Kyle Monongai, RB – Monongai has been mostly good this year, but if he’s going to take the next step, becoming a more complete player is going to be key. Dropping his only two targets, two screen passes, isn’t going to help.
Cairo Santos, K – It was not the easiest kicking conditions on Sunday. I am sure the ball felt like kicking a rock. But you have to make your kicks. It was Santos’ first miss of under 40 yards as a Bear. But heading into pivotal games, you have to feel good about your kicker. Right now, my confidence is probably only like 7/10 when Santos is lining up.
