Stephen A. Smith Rips George Pickens for Taking Constant Shots at Steelers
Steelers Now Steelers Now

Since being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in May, George Pickens has voiced a slew of passive aggressive comments directed at his former team the Pittsburgh Steelers. In an interview 105.3 The Fan last week, Pickens once again buried the Steelers.

Pickens said the the Cowboys are known for winning and the first team you think about when discussing Super Bowls. He also said the camaraderie in Dallas is superior compared to what it was in Pittsburgh.

“I understand the camaraderie [with the Cowboys] more than I did in Pittsburgh,” Pickens said. “The Cowboys are known for the Super Bowl. If they weren’t known for that, nobody would care about the Cowboys.”

With the Cowboys not appearing in a conference championship game in 30 years, Stephen A. Smith thought Pickens’ statement was quite humorous. The Steelers also have won six Super Bowls compared to the Cowboys’ five.

“George Pickens, do you have any idea when you talk about the Super Bowl and the Cowboys?” Smith said on First Take. “You do understand that the Steelers are a more successful franchise. Do you understand what you’re saying? Talk about a brother who needs to pick up a book.”

During the same interview with 105.3 The Fan, Pickens also took a shot at the Steelers offense.

“A lot more dig [routes]. That’s what I feel like … a lot of other teams, they don’t want to implement it because you got a running back.”

Pickens also took a passive aggressive shot at the Steelers offense when asked about his full route tree and how he can be utilized in Dallas.

“I’m definitely excited to run better plays,” Pickens said bluntly at the start of Cowboys training camp, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News.

Since being dealt to Dallas for a third-round pick, Pickens has not held back in making comparisons between his new and former teams. Whether through subtle jabs in interviews or pointed comments on social media, the former second-round pick has made it clear, he doesn’t miss much about the Steelers.

Pickens’ talent has never been in question. The Georgia product consistently showed big-play ability in Pittsburgh, turning in highlight-reel catches and demonstrating the skillset of a top-tier boundary receiver. But his sideline behavior and perceived immaturity reportedly created tension within the organization, contributing to the Steelers’ decision to move on.

The offense was a mess during Pickens’ time with the Steelers, but he also contributed to the dysfunction.

In 2023, Pickens was fined over $200,000 between the NFL and the Steelers for incidents, including reported serial tardiness to team practices and meetings.

In 2024, he received over $80,000 in fines from the NFL for his on-field behavior, including unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, two fights after the...
