Questions, unsurprisingly, have surrounded Drake Maye about whether he will be the New England Patriots’ franchise quarterback for years to come.

The talent has never been a question for Maye, rather, his ability to stay consistent and keep the mistakes to a minimum. Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins was a decent show of that, going 19-of-23 in the air for 230 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed 10 times for 31 yards with a score.

He dropped back half as much in Week 2 as he did in the Week 1 loss to the Raiders, and the offense as a whole seemed far more cohesive than it did last week — let alone at most points last season.

Stefon Diggs, who caught four passes for 32 yards in the win, made an important point about Maye’s play in the win.

“(He’s) growing up, it’s early,” Diggs said, via a team-provided transcript. “Game 2, obviously, we try to go 1-0 each and every week. I feel like he made a jump from last week, just settling in. It’s hard being a young quarterback, but I feel like he is doing the best job he can, and obviously four incompletions, that’s something to be happy about.”

Maye did show more of the poise you’d hope to see from a quarterback, comfortably guiding the offense in the late stages of the game as things turned into a rock fight. It wasn’t always perfect, but there was improvement.
