ESPN analyst and retired NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky said on Monday that the New England Patriots “should be 3-0” entering Week 4.

Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs echoed those comments on Wednesday.

“Stefon Diggs: ‘We could easily be sitting at 3-0. Granted, we’re not. But that gives us a lot to look forward to, a lot to work on,'” Andrew Callahan of The Boston Herald posted on Bluesky.

Instead, New England is 1-2 going into Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, already two games behind the division-leading Buffalo Bills and still seeking its first home win under head coach Mike Vrabel.

It’s not like the Patriots haven’t been competitive in each of their first three contests this fall.

New England has only been outscored 68 to 60 thus far, whereas its -128 net points were fifth-worst last season.

Whether it’s been a shaky secondary that was torched by Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith in Week 1 or a sloppy offense that committed five turnovers in Week 3, there have been red flags in the early portion of the campaign.

Maybe the Patriots “could” or “should” be 3-0, but the bottom line is that they enter Week 4 at 1-2 for the fifth consecutive season.
