By now, it’s become quite clear that the New England Patriots are having one of the most exciting seasons across the NFL in 2025. There are several big reasons this team has suddenly found success, and one of them is the presence of veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The Patriots took a bit of a risk in free agency over the offseason by signing Diggs to a three-year, $69 million contract after he suffered a torn ACL in 2024. But Diggs has been phenomenal in his first year with New England, as he’s caught 64 passes for 705 yards and three touchdowns.
Beyond that, Diggs has emerged as a leader in a wide receiver room that didn’t exactly appear to be oozing talent entering the year. Instead, this group has delivered the goods on a weekly basis, and Diggs chalked that up to one key trait.
“Unselfishness,” Diggs said when asked what makes New England’s wide receiver room stand out. “I would never sit up here and act like a robot, act like I don’t want the ball. But I can tell you the guy next to me right here, and the guy next to him, everybody wants the ball, everybody wants to play at a high level. It’s like seven dogs and one bone.”
This is a bit of a change of pace for Diggs, as he reportedly wore out his welcome with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills due to his desire to receive the ball as much as possible in the passing game. With New England, Diggs has recognized that quarterback Drake Maye is going to get the ball to whoever gets open for him.
In many cases, Diggs has been that guy, and he will look to continue to deliver the goods for this team moving forward. Diggs will have another shot to get revenge against his old team, the Bills, as the Patriots will square off against them in a huge divisional matchup on Sunday afternoon.
