New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and wide receiver Stefon Diggs are quickly establishing themselves as one of the top QB-WR combinations in the NFL.
It appears that Maye and Diggs have built a solid bond over the past five games. Diggs expressed his enthusiasm about playing alongside his 23-year-old quarterback.
“He’s a good kid,” Diggs told Patriots.com’s Steve Burton on Friday, via Carlos A. Lopez. “Tremendous football player. He gives you something to get excited about. I get excited when I watch him. To be a part of something so special, it just seems like it’s going in the right direction.”
Diggs understands what it takes to succeed with a young, talented quarterback, having spent four seasons with Bills QB Josh Allen. Although Diggs didn’t join Buffalo until Allen’s third season, the veteran receiver significantly helped transform Allen into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Now, Diggs is stepping into a similar role with Maye, who is in his second season, and it seems to be paying off. So far, Maye has thrown for 1,261 yards and seven touchdowns, while Diggs has made 29 catches for 359 yards over five games.
The Patriots still have 12 games left this season, but if Maye and Diggs can continue developing a strong connection, they might secure the team’s first playoff appearance since 2021.
