Stefon Diggs and the New England Patriots went to Buffalo on Sunday night to take on the Bills.
It was Diggs’ return to the stadium he played in for four seasons, and it was clear the veteran wanted to perform against his old team. Diggs caught 10 passes for 146 yards and constantly got open and made plays for his quarterback. As a result, the Patriots ended up escaping with a 23-20 upset win over their division rival.
Obviously, for Diggs to put up those numbers, his quarterback had to play well too. Drake Maye completed 22 of his 30 passes for 273 yards. The quarterback didn’t throw any touchdowns or interceptions, but he was efficient and did enough.
After the game, Diggs couldn’t help but praise his young quarterback. The veteran receiver said he was “so proud” of Maye for his gutsy performance.
“I seen a young quarterback take a step in the right direction,” said Diggs, per Carlos A. Lopez. “It’s a hell of a comparison to be compared to Josh Allen, but as you come into your own, Drake Maye has to be Drake Maye. I was just so proud of him.”
While it wasn’t the most impressive stat line you’ll ever see, there’s no question that Maye was poised and didn’t back away from the moment. At the end of the day, winning big games is all that matters, and Maye proved he can do that.
Now, the Patriots are sitting at 3-2 and are only one game behind the Bills in the AFC East. This win could certainly end up having playoff implications and is one of the more impressive wins of the young season.
Next up, the Patriots will travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints in a game the Patriots should be favored in. After that, the team heads to Nashville to take on the Titans before finally returning to Foxboro after that to take on the Cleveland Browns.
