Stefon Diggs might get called into Mike Vrabel’s office this week — and not for a good reason.
The Patriots receiver posted 10 catches for 146 yards against his former team on Sunday when New England scored a dramatic 23-20 road win over the Buffalo Bills. After the game, Diggs and fellow receiver Kyle Williams both broadcast on Instagram Live while inside the Patriots locker room. And that’s typically a big no-no, as viewers hypothetically could see things meant to be private, like unclothed players walking through the room.
To make matters worse, a Patriots public-relations staffer asked Diggs to stop the broadcast, only for the 31-year-old to put her on camera briefly and ignore her request for roughly 30 seconds.
You can watch clips from Williams and Diggs’ broadcast in the following video, which contains NSFW language.
Is that the biggest deal in the world? No, and Diggs and his teammates understandably were fired up after earning a signature victory.
Still, Patriots players and coaches have identified Diggs as a leader, and with that label comes a level of professionalism and awareness that wasn’t displayed during the broadcast. You’re kidding yourself if you think there weren’t veterans in the locker room turned off by the behavior.
However, at the end of the day, all that matters is how Vrabel feels about it. We know how Bill Belichick would’ve handled the issue, but Vrabel is a more player-friendly coach and might be more lenient.
Given Diggs’ somewhat mercurial personality, it’ll be interesting to see how his behavior evolves throughout the season — both during the good times and the bad.
