A veteran wide receiver remains unsigned following a couple of free agent visits with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills.
Veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis, who visited the Pittsburgh Steelers for the second time this offseason on Tuesday, remains a free agent after leaving his visit with the Buffalo Bills without a contract, per the transaction wire.
It’s good news for anyone still holding out hope that Davis will eventually sign with the Steelers, especially given his history with the Bills.
Davis began his NFL career as a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by Buffalo, recording 163 catches for 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns through his first four NFL seasons.
However, it could also mean that Davis is still not fully healthy. Davis first visited the Steelers back in June and has taken several visits with other NFL teams, but he was unable to pass a physical coming off an injury-riddled 2024 campaign.
The 26-year-old was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars with a failed physical designation in May after spending most of the 2024 season dealing with a knee injury that eventually caused him to have surgery and miss the final seven games of the season.
If that is the case, Davis would be come the latest wide receiver to be ruled out as an option for Pittsburgh.
The Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos were all tabbed as teams that could be opening to moving on from wide receivers as they are loaded at the position.
However, the Texans dealt wide receiver John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend, the Broncos traded wide receiver Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday and the Packers have suffered several injuries at the position, likely diminishing any chances of them trading any of their healthy options. The Kansas City Chiefs also moved former second-round wide receiver Skyy Moore.
Meanwhile, the Steelers have stood pat. That could mean they are confident they’ll eventually land a player like Davis or they are simply happy with the current state of their room.
Either way, the start to the 2025 season is right around the corner and Pittsburgh is running out of time if it wants to make one last addition to the room.
