A former player of the Pittsburgh Steelers believes one of the team’s wide receivers is finally primed to breakout in 2026.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson has greatly disappointed since the team selected him in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, there is a growing belief that he could finally reach his potential in 2026.

Former Steelers linebacker Vince Williams recently tabbed Wilson as his offensive breakout candidate for this season.

“I think, we have not seen what this guy can do,” Williams said on Steelers Nation Radio. “Everybody’s waiting for him to break out. Like, this will be the optimal time for him to actually just come alive and show Steeler Nation why we drafted him.”

Wilson hasn’t lived up to expectations through the first two years of his NFL career. His rookie campaign was hampered by injuries as he only played in one game.

Then in 2025, Wilson recorded just 12 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns and was a healthy scratch on numerous occasions down the stretch, as Aaron Rodgers preferred veteran receivers Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

That is why Williams thinks Wilson could finally be set up to make an impact during the 2026 season.

“I don’t want to say we haven’t seen him do anything, but he’s been stifled a little bit,” Williams continued. “And I would love to see him, and how much he could actually contribute to an offense.”

However, although Thielen and Valdes-Scantling have since left the team, veteran Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie Germie Bernard have been added to it.

That doesn’t mean Wilson will have the same amount or less opportunities than a season ago. But it does mean he’s going to have to earn his snaps once again, and he’s ready for the challenge.

“Just keep building on it, from everything I’ve learned, apply that to what I’m doing,” Wilson said. “I’m really just trying to take off.”
