PITTSBURGH — DK Metcalf paid a visit to a Baltimore-area hospital, then stayed back away from the team at a nearby hotel on Sunday night, but the Pittsburgh Steelers’ No. 1 receiver is past the stomach pains scare.
“I’m good,” Metcalf said Thursday after practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
Metcalf was asked if it was a frightening situation for him, having gotten off the Steelers’ team plane before it departed to return to Pittsburgh.
“Right, yeah, I’m good,” Metcalf said.
Metcalf had his best day in black and gold so far during the Steelers’ 27-22 win over the Baltimore Ravens. He reeled in seven passes for 148 yards, including a 52-yard grab on the team’s first offensive play.
“He got hit in the abdomen or stomach in-game,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. “I think they gave him some basic, over-the-counter remedies in-game, like Pepto (Bismol) or something like that and it got probably progressively worse after the game, and so I’m appreciative of our medical experts. We just exercised an abundance of precaution. We didn’t wanna get him in the air without having a complete understanding about what he was dealing with, and they did a good job of that.”
Metcalf also offered the key to continuing that success through the air going forward.
“Continue to find weaknesses in defenses and continue to exploit that moving forward,” Metcalf said.
