The Pittsburgh Steelers have given several veteran days off to respective players throughout camp. One player who has missed a week of practice due to injury, though, is wide receiver Calvin Austin.

The severity of the injury, and exactly what the injury was remained under wraps for quite some time. The Steelers didn’t seem overly concerned about it, but questions still remained. Now, we have been given some clarity on the issue.

Austin is dealing with a minor abdominal injury, per Alan Saunders of Steelers Now.

“While Austin is entering the final season of his contract, Austin’s agent, Rodney Williams, confirmed to SN that the only reason he is not practicing right now is his injury,“ Saunders writes. ”Austin previously participated in all of the team’s other offseason programs before the injury.“

Austin’s absence from last Saturday’s preseason opener against the Jaguars allowed Roman Wilson and Scotty Miller to get more looks on the field. It appears the Steelers aren’t rushing things with him, as Mike Tomlin sounded optimistic when asked about the Memphis product.

“He’ll be perking back up here soon, I’d imagine,” Tomlin said of Austin.

The Steelers will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday in Week 2 of the preseason.
