Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III is hoping to return to the field sooner rather than later.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III exited the team’s Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings with a shoulder injury. He recently provided an update on his health status.
While Austin did not give a definite timeline, he did not rule out missing the next few weeks, either, which could also include a stint on injured reserve.
“I have no clue about that,” Austin said. “I’m just taking it a day at a time, listening to the medical staff, Coach T., and whenever that time is, I’ll be ready.”
It’s not the update many fans were hoping to hear as Austin has played a key role in the Steelers offense, recording 10 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns through the first four weeks of the season.
However, he seems to be in better spirits than was what previously reported. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Austin is expected to miss at least several games with his injury.
Only time will tell if that will happen, but Pittsburgh will need him back sooner rather than later with a lack of playmakers already on the roster.
After suffering his injury in the fourth quarter, Austin quickly left the field and was taken to a local hospital for imaging. Croke Park, unlike most NFL stadiums, does not have in-stadium x-ray capacity.
Luckily for the Steelers, Austin has had the past week to recover thanks to their bye. Unfortunately, a Week 6 return doesn’t seem to be in the cards right now.
A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Memphis, Austin has 63 receptions for 867 yards and seven touchdowns in his professional career.
