The Steelers worked out cornerback Christian Holmes on Monday, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported.
Holmes’ Steelers tryout was part of a previously-reported workout including former Steelers cornerback and Jaguars first-round pick C.J. Henderson, as well as rookie corner Daryl Porter Jr., who reportedly signed with Pittsburgh that same day.
Holmes, like Henderson, didn’t get a deal. But the Steelers often return to players they’ve previously worked out when making 90-man roster and practice squad/futures deals later in the season.
Drafted in the seventh round by the Washington Commanders in 2022, Holmes most recently spent time with the New York Giants.
He’s appeared in 30 career NFL games, starting two, logging 20 career tackles and one pass defended. He didn’t appear in a game in 2024, but recorded 607 special teams snaps over his 2022-23 seasons.
There aren’t any official 40-yard dash times floating around for Holmes, but his Oklahoma State bio notes that the 6’1, 200-pound corner ran a 4.53 in high school.
The Steelers will visit the Jacksonville Jaguars Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. EST for their preseason opener.
