PITTSBURGH — An NFL player fighting through a broken finger to play is not necessarily unheard of. San Francisco 49ers safety Ronnie Lott famously decided to have the tip of his finger amputated instead of missing playing time to repair it with a pin. Others have played with casts or tape jobs over broken extremities.
But it would be relatively uncommon for a wide receiver to be able to do it. That’s what Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Scotty Miller is going to try just that.
Miller suffered a broken finger on his left hand during practice last week when he tried to catch a pass. The injury kept him out of Sunday’s Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers, but head coach Mike Tomlin did not rule out Miller for Week 9.
Miller did not practice on Wednesday and had a small brace on his left pinky and ring fingers. He’ll have two more chances to get back on the field before Sunday’s home date with the Colts.
In addition to Miller, fellow wide receiver Ben Skowronek was limited in practice on Wednesday.
