The Steelers announced that they waived tight end Kevin Foelsch on Tuesday to make room for the previously-reported signing of rookie cornerback Daryl Porter Jr.
Foelsch went undrafted in 2024, and he’s bounced around the league since. He hasn’t played in an NFL regular season game. He signed with the Steelers on July 29.
By swapping Foelsch for Porter, the Steelers’ offseason roster remains full with 91 players: the 90 allotted by the NFL, and international pathway exemption Julius Welschof.
Porter provides some depth to a Steelers cornerback room that suffered some injuries last week. Seventh-round rookie Donte Kent has been in a walking boot at practice, while third-year corner Cory Trice Jr. is dealing with a soft tissue injury.
The Steelers will start their preseason schedule in less than a week, traveling to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. EST. Stay tuned to Behind the Steel Curtain for more Steelers news and analysis ahead of the game.
