PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers got a reprieve in their chase for an AFC North title when the Cincinnati Bengals upset the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. But to fully take advantage of it, they’ll have to hold serve against a strong Buffalo Bills team on Sunday.

The Steelers also signed wide receiver Cornell Powell and defensive lineman Anthony Goodlow to their practice squad and released defensive back Daequan Hardy and linebacker Mark Robinson from their practice squad.
In a game delayed a day by a lake effect snowstorm in the Buffalo area, the Steelers spotted the Bills a three-score lead with a disastrous first quarter, and lost 31-14 in a Wild Card playoff game at Highmark Stadium on Jan. 15, 2024.
Mason Rudolph threw his first interception since taking over from Kenny Pickett as the Steelers’ starter late in the 2023 season and George Pickens fumbled the ball, setting the Bills up with two short fields in their first four possessions.
The Pittsburgh defense could do little to slow down Josh Allen and company, who were nearly perfect. Allen took the initial drive of the game 80 yards, with a 9-yard pass to tight end Dawson Knox in the back of the end zone providing the game’s first score. He finished 21 of 30 for 203 yard and two touchdowns.
The Steelers are 17-13 all-time against the Bills in the regular season and playoffs, but since Allen’s arrival on the scene, he has tilted the scales. The Steelers and Bills have played in four of the last five seasons, with Allen and the Bills winning three of the four.
Before that, the Steelers had won six straight games against Buffalo from 2001 to 2016 and 10 of 11 from 1993 to 2016.
Backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Steelers, first as a starter and then as a backup.
