Veteran safety Chuck Clark was among the Pittsburgh Steelers’ final roster cuts on Tuesday afternoon. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be back in black and gold soon.

Along with fellow secondary cut James Pierre, Clark is a veteran who does not need to go through waivers. There is a chance the Steelers bring one or both back.

The team’s reason for cutting them would be to avoid using an automatic injured reserve designation on someone like rookie quarterback Will Howard or cornerback Donte Kent. If Howard or Kent is placed on injured reserve after tomorrow, the Steelers can decide to bring them back or not. If they were to go on today, they automatically use one of eight slots.

The #Steelers have made the following cuts:

CB Beanie Bishop
CB James Pierre
S Sebastian Castro
S Chuck Clark
DT Domenique Davis (W/Inj)

WR Ke'Shawn Williams
WR Brandon Johnson (W/Inj)
OG Max Scharping
RB Trey Sermon

CB Cory Trice was placed on IR-Return

Clark played the last two seasons with the New York Jets, starting 12 games a campaign ago after tearing his ACL in the offseason in 2023. He notched 69 combined tackles, two passes defended, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a sack in 2024.

Before his time with the Jets, Clark spent six seasons with John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens. He began his NFL career as a sixth-round draft pick in 2017. He joined former Ravens teammates Patrick Queen and DeShon Elliott when he signed with the Steelers last month.

Clark has played in 108 games during his career, starting 75. In 2021, he posted 80 stops, a pair of interceptions, a dozen passes defended and three tackles for loss.

The Steelers also cut undrafted rookie safety Sebastian Castro and cornerback Beanie Bishop. Cory Trice was placed on IR return.
