On the heels of Pittsburgh Steelers guard Max Scharping suffering a season-ending torn ACL during practice on Wednesday, the Steelers have brought in five offensive lineman for tryouts.

The Steelers hosted offensive linemen Karsen Barnhart, Leroy Watson, Chris Glaser, Lorenzo Thompson and Sebastian Gutierrez for visits on Friday. Four of those players are tackles while one is a guard, however, all five have position flexibility.

Barnhart, who’s a member of Michigan’s national championship team in 2023, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. He reunited with former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He was waived on August 27, and re-signed to the practice squad.

He signed a reserve/future contract with the Chargers on Jan. 13, 2025. Barnhart was released by Los Angeles during the final cuts in August. Barnhart played both guard and tackle at Michigan and with the Chargers. He’s yet to play in an NFL regular season game.

Watson, who went undrafted in 2022 out of the University of Texas at San Antonio, has played in 11 NFL games with four starts, all coming at tackle. He has had stints with the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings. Watson started four games for Tennessee last season.

Like Watson, Glaser also was an undrafted free agent in 2022. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after the draft before having stints with the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. Glaser’s lone start was with the Jets in 2023.

Thompson was originally signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent this past May. He was released by the Browns in the first wave of cuts on Aug. 21.

Thompson appeared in 46 games at Rhode Island (2018-23), finishing his collegiate career with 37 consecutive starts.

Gutierrez went undrafted in 2022 out of Minot State University. He first signed with the Denver Broncos before spending time with a slew of teams — New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns. He most recently was with the Browns before being released on Aug. 1. He has appeared in two NFL games.
