Agent Drew Rosenhaus revealed the preferred destination of Miami Dolphins trade candidate tight end Jonnu Smith.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in talks with the Miami Dolphins to potentially trade for Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, revealed Smith’s preferred destination on Monday.

“Here’s what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami,” Rosenhaus said on WSVN-7. “That’s his first choice. This is where he lives in the offseason.”

Smith, 29, is coming off the best season of his NFL career. In 2024, when he recorded a career-high 88 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns.

However, the Dolphins are going to have to pay up if they hope to keep Smith, who has expressed interest in a new deal as he’s set to make just $4.8 million this season.

“He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end,” Rosenhaus continued. “He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a tight end and was the team’s single Pro Bowl player. He’s an incredibly valuable part of this team.”

Smith has spent most of his football career in Florida. He attended West Port High School in Ocala, Florida, then played his collegiate ball at FIU and finally returned in 2024 with the Dolphins.

Rosenhaus says he would like that to continue being the case.

“His dream team is the Dolphins,” he said. “Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami.”

That doesn’t mean it will, though. Miami is already paying big money to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, so the team might not be interested in raising Smith’s number.

If that’s the case, the Steelers could turn out to be the benefactors. They have been looking to add another playmaker to their offense since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this month. And given the crop of wide receivers left on the open market, Smith may be the best offensive weapon available.

Smith has recorded 307 receptions for 3,307 yards and 28 touchdowns in his eight-year NFL career.
