Steelers Now
The Pittsburgh Steelers are scheduled to workout veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Monday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Valdes-Scantling is a former teammate with Aaron Rodgers. The two have a close relationship.
In 2020 with Rodgers in Green Bay, Valdes-Scantling set career highs in receiving yards (690) and touchdowns (6) while making 12 starts.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on Saturday that the Steelers are doing everything they can to bolster the wide receiver position.
“Pittsburgh. They are scouring the earth for wide receiver help,” Fowler said. “They are looking around. Las Vegas’ Jaokbi Meyers is an option. Teams are calling about Miami’s Jaylen Waddle, but the Dolphins haven’t showed they want to do anything yet, but there could be a receiver moved at the deadline. Pittsburgh could be involved in those conversations.”
That lines up with Dianna Russini of The Athletic’s report that the Steelers and Buffalo Bills are two teams to watch at the trade deadline at the receiver position.

Valdes-Scantling was released by the Seattle Seahawks in late August as part of that team’s cut down to 53 players. He was choosing between the Steelers and 49ers, according to a report by Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV.
On Oct. 17, Valdes-Scantling was placed on injured reserve due to a calf injury, and released the next day. Valdes-Scantling caught four passes for 40 yards in five games with San Francisco.
According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Rodgers tried to recruit Valdes-Scantling to the Steelers before the free agent wide receiver ultimately decided to join the San Francisco 49ers.
“He wanted me back over there,” Valdes-Scantling said via Barrows.
However, Valdes-Scantling was looking for something else, despite his relationship with Rodgers being very intriguing.
“There’s a lot of carryover with the system, being able to come in right away and not have to learn a whole new system,” he said.
Valdes-Scantling started the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills, but was released following the Bills’ acquisition of wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
He then signed with the New Orleans Saints a week later and remained on the their roster for the rest of the year.
Valdes-Scantling signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Seahawks this March that had $1.5 million guaranteed, which Seattle will still be paying him this season.
The 6-foot-4, 206-pound receiver ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash coming out of South Florida in 2018, and has remained a dangerous deep threat, if not a high-volume target. His 17.4 yards per catch over the course of his career makes him the active NFL leader in that category.
After four seasons with the Packers, Valdes-Scantling signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, winning a pair of Super Bowl rings as a regular starter.
